From an idea, to a (big) plank of wood in my driveway, a couple of maquettes, a question designed to maintain domestic harmony and a jumble of timber In Jack’s Axework Arts workshop. To this beautiful table.

Its sheer size sets it apart; made of a single piece of good English Oak, the top measuring almost three inches deep, on sturdy oaken legs, and weighing a ton, it’s designed to last for at least 200 years.

The idea is for our smaller celebrations to enjoy, if they wish, the wonderful views of the valley, the woods and of course the church, whilst they partake of a sumptuous feast. Eating together has always been a pivotal part in cementing and confirming relationships, its universal appeal going back into the mists of time.

Think, just think - generations yet unborn will gather around this great table, one day perhaps it will be a revered antique. Imagine the stories that will be told, the laughter and the tears. The hopes and the dreams.

Mary and I are hoping that a few of you would perhaps like to help us welcome our latest addition - a kind of ‘first supper’ if you like, after all, like Dode itself, it’s a communal concept, and it’s a different way of celebrating the Spring Equinox and the longer days ahead than hunting Easter eggs.

So, if you would like to come along on the afternoon of Sunday the 22nd and bring some food to share, your favourite tipple, meet like minded people and make new friends just email me at doug@dodevillage.com and we can all welcome our newest addition.

Merry Meet and Merry Be and Merry Meet Again —Doug.
