Christmas Wedding Ideas

3rd December 2020

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? At Dode we cannot guarantee snow, however we can guarantee a unique venue set in the heart of the Kent Countryside.  There are many ways to have a festive feel for your wedding, some of our favourite ideas are below;

Festive food and drink

Who doesn’t love food and drink? A festive touch could range from mulled wine, or a hot chocolate non-alcoholic option which as well as being festive, warms everyone up! Other ideas could include turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches for an afternoon tea, to stuffing canapés. Whatever you choose its likely to be a hit with guests.

Seasonal colours and flowers

Christmas colours can be white and sparkly to green and reds. Textures play a massive part from faux fur wraparounds for ladies to velvet suits for men.

Think wreaths with pillar candles, to holly and pine cones. There are lots of ideas to suit an array of colour schemes (if you are having one). How amazing is the below archway at Dode with green foliage and red flowers from a December wedding at Dode by Moody Blooms? A sprig of mistletoe can bring even more excitement to the day! Deep red and white roses are extremely festive for a Christmas wedding, with green leaves and holly providing an elegant contrast.

Festive tunes

Whether you are having live or recorded music you can bring a few Christmas numbers out. From classical to pop there is a wide repertoire to choose from.

Lighting

From candles to battery-powered string lights, you can create a real ambience with a candle-lit room. Dode is lit entirely by candlelight adding a slightly gothic vibe by using mounted candles on the wall. You can even use candles to light the path.

Festive favours

If you are feeling generous and would like to give guests a favour to take home with them, why not make it Christmasy? Think Christmas tree decorations, a bauble to a pine cone, allowing guests to take some Christmas cheer home with them and have a keepsake for years. For a more edible favour traditional gingerbread or stollen will go down well. You could even double up and have a place card and favour gingerbread man (or lady) in one with their name on.

Make it snow!

At the start of the blog we mentioned that we cannot guarantee snow at Dode. There is always the next best thing, you could have a snow machine for when guests are leaving Dode church to give an effect. How pretty does Dode look in the snow? If you are after the full Christmas experience Reindeer can do just that, a wonderful surprise for your guests as well. We enjoyed the below reindeer visiting us a few years ago.
