Holly Barrow is Dodes interpretation of the beautiful Long Barrows carefully constructed by our ancestors some 5000 years ago, ancient structures that are still revered and venerated today, the modern equivalent to todays crematoriums and local graveyards.
Nestling comfortably into the surrounding hillside and compromising five spacious circular chambers approached by a stone lined passageway aligned to the Beltane (Mayday) sunrise it contains a series of superbly constructed niches in which the ashes of those who have sadly now left us may rest peacefully under Mother Nature’s watchful and caring eye.
As you approach the beautiful handcrafted iron gate you are entering another, realm, a place of elemental perfection and peace, of silence and serenity.
As you pass between the comforting solidarity of sturdy walls lit only by candles in stone lined niches you become aware of the heartbeat of Mother Earth.
As you enter the circular candle lit Chapel you understand. You have returned home to where you have always truly belonged, within the earth that made you, sustained you, and will always welcome and protect you
