Inside the candlelit stone walls of Dode Church
Step into a world where time folds inwards, and music becomes the storyteller. Beneath the ancient arches of Dode Church, join us for A Bard’s Tale — an evocative candlelit concert that carries its listeners across centuries and continents.
Renowned classical guitarist Manus Noble visits Dode with a soul-stirring programme that speaks not just to the ear, but to the heart. Performed on classical guitar, Irish bouzouki, handpan, shruti box and voice, the music is beautifully entwined with real letters read aloud — love letters, partings, reflections — that bring deep emotional resonance to every note played.
Noble is celebrated across Europe for his distinct, powerful playing style and his ability to breathe life into each performance. His training includes the Royal College of Music (First Class Honours) and the Royal Academy of Music (Distinction), where he studied under legends such as Craig Ogden and Gary Ryan. His accolades are many, his artistry widely admired.
With performances in iconic venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall and Sage Gateshead, and a legacy of teaching and directing national ensembles, Manus brings not only technical brilliance, but a rare sensitivity and storytelling spirit.
As dusk falls over the ancient yew trees and the last light slips from the sky, let the glow of candlelight and the echoes of string and story lift your soul in a setting untouched by time.
